Content Managed Systems (CMS)
A typical CMS allows users to administer their sites directly (via a browser) from any location. Content and structure can be added by users with little or no knowledge of HTML, with the "look and feel" of the site always preserved - controlled by the templates set up by the designer/developer.
The design of a CMS is modular - allowing functions to easily be added or disabled. Many CMS's may work "off the shelf" with little customisation or modification, but beyond a certain point it may be wiser to go for a tailor-made solution.
